Abstract:

Climate change represents a significant threat to our planet and our collective future. To address this challenge, it is essential to raise public awareness and provide the necessary knowledge to understand, mitigate, and adapt to the impacts of climate change. However, education on this crucial topic faces numerous challenges. This research aims to analyze the educational challenges related to climate change in Benin. The methodology adopted involved conducting a survey among secondary and technical education stakeholders, analyzing data, and reviewing the literature to identify and understand these challenges. The results of this research show that many obstacles persist. Among the main challenges, it was found that 95% of teachers often lack the knowledge and resources to effectively address the topic of climate change. Additionally, 90% of respondents indicated that school curricula do not always reflect the latest scientific advances on climate change and do not sufficiently promote an interdisciplinary approach. Misinformation and climate denial also pose barriers to understanding and accepting the reality of climate change, according to 85% of respondents. Finally, schools and educational institutions often lack the financial and material resources to implement truly effective climate change education programs.
