Abstract:

The present study has critically analysed the export Competitiveness of Indian Cashew nut and found that the average trade specification coefficient index for Raw Cashew nut and Cashew kernel were negative 0.97 and 0.93 respectively. It was concluded that Raw cashew nut imports value was greater than exports value and Cashew Kernel exports value was greater than imports value. The average Nominal Protection co-efficient (NPC) was 1.28 for Cashew Kernel. It was found that Indian cashew kernel exports were non-competitive to international importers (buyers) because of NPC ratio was greater than one. The average index of revealed comparative advantage (RCA) of Indian cashew export was 6.82 and confirmed that India had revealed comparative advantage in Cashew exports. The study recommends that Indian government must triple cashew production by increasing cashew area, production and productivity of Cashew, minimum raw cashew nut prices to farmers, Increase in export incentives (transport assistance) for exports of cashew kernel and salted/roasted cashew, reduction of import duty to zero per cent by their exporting partners, duty free import of raw cashew-nuts should be continued from least developed African countries, the imports of broken and whole cashew kernels should be free if CIF value is above Rs 700 per kg for broken and Rs 740 per kg for whole cashew, reduction in International Goods and services tax (IGST) and reduction in basic customs duty of roasted/ salted cashew kernels, cashew kernel broken, whole and raw cashew nut and food safety and quality standards may be strengthened to access export markets.
