This study is the result of several months of research into the consumption behaviour of sports derivative products at sporting events involving national teams. Investigations were carried out by means of participant observation and semi-directive interview surveys, between January and December 2022, coinciding with the participation of the Senegalese national football team in the African Cup of Nations and the World Cup of the same year. The results of the study show that the consumption of derivative products is of a symbolic nature for fans who, through their possession, express their identity and their attachment to the national team that represents them at international competitions. Buying a shirt is also a way of supporting the team (emotionally and financially). The results also highlight the limitations of the Senegalese Football Federation's range of derivative products, as well as the distribution of these products. Among the recommendations put forward in this research is the need for Senegalese football managers to diversify the range of products offered to the public and their distribution, while taking into account the low purchasing power of the majority of the population.
