The growing global population, coupled with dwindling natural resources and changing climate patterns, presents formidable challenges to global food security. Precision agriculture, a technology-driven approach to site-specific crop management, is increasingly recognized for its potential to optimize resource use and enhance productivity. Nanotechnology, with its ability to manipulate materials at the atomic and molecular scales, offers transformative applications in agriculture. This review highlights the integration of nanotechnology in precision farming through innovations such as nano-fertilizers, nano-pesticides, nano-sensors, and smart delivery systems. Nano-fertilizers enhance nutrient use efficiency and enable sustained release, reducing environmental losses. Nano-pesticides improve target specificity and persistence while minimizing toxic residues. Nano-sensors provide real-time monitoring of soil and crop conditions, supporting informed decision-making. Additionally, nanomaterials contribute to seed treatment, soil health, and water management, fostering sustainability in agricultural systems. While the field is still evolving, nanotechnology promises to revolutionize precision agriculture by enhancing input efficiency, crop performance, and environmental stewardship. Its adoption is particularly crucial for resource-constrained countries like India, where food security and environmental sustainability must go hand in hand.
